Back on Track

Now that the hard part is out of the way, I can start getting back on track with this little blog of mine! Since most of my energy tonight was put into what/what not to say in my previous post, all I have time for is to post some pictures. But who am I kidding? You guys love the pitchas!

Steppin' Out Saturday: Baby Shower Edition

I've never done an SOS post before. This is because on Saturdays, I am usually catching up on housework & wearing a chic combo of sweats & a tank top. This is also because I shop at high end stores such as K-Mart & Dress Barn. And this is also because most of my wardrobe is hand me downs & thrifted.

I only know the shirt is from Dress Barn because that's what the tag says. My Mom gave me this shirt after she didn't want it anymore. The shorts were bootylicious & I actually prefer a longer length, but paired with the boots, I felt they needed to be on the shorter side. The boots were also given to me by Meaghan (step-daughter) after she decided she didn't want them anymore.

Told you. Booty freaking licious.

This Saturday, my Mom, Collin & I went to a baby shower that my Aunt was holding at her house. Collin was the only male there. He totally didn't mind this & instantly got to work upholding his Mac Daddy rep.

The shower was in the middle of nap time, so Collin's Mac daddy skills diminished quickly & his exceptional tantrum skills kicked in. I was so glad when we got home. Naps are necessary, people. For your sanity.

Green Thumbs & Selfies

First of all, WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT GOOGLE CHROME?!?!?! I've been using IE since forevvveeerrrr. All this time, Google Chrome has been waiting in the background patiently for me to discover it's pure awesomeness. This is my first official blog post via Chrome. And I'm sort of in love. We upgraded our internet speed in December after cancelling our home phone...I never noticed a difference in speed. Until Google Chrome. Oh, how I love thee.

Anyway, there is a point to this post...I am notorious for my black thumb. Around these parts, people know to keep their plants far, far away from me. When Greg & I met, he had five or six houseplants. They were dead two weeks after I moved in. I guess they just knew they were doomed. So.....why did I think I could grow cilantro, green onion & lavender from seeds? Because it's spring & obviously I needed a reason to buy those cute buckets at the Dollar Spot (Target...holllaaaaaa).

I have been watering & checking on my little herbs religiously for weeks now. Today was the day I had finally been waiting for. Confirmation that I am not, in fact, a plant murderer!! In fact, I am the giver of life for these plants!!! I feel a little maternal towards my cilantro because it is growing so hard & so fast. I'm so proud of my little plants!!

I also did my very first selfie shoot with my DSLR this afternoon. It was crazy hard because I didn't have a stand in & because I'm not as cool as everyone else with their handy remotes. I'm not super happy with the results, but whatevs. I'm looking forward to trying again. Anyone know where I can get a cheap remote?

Also, it's been heating up pretty quickly here in VegasLand. So much so, that the inside temperature of the house reached 80F! This Mama is determined not to use the AC until (at least) May, though. So, I cranked up our three ceiling fans, opened up my front & back windows to let a breeze in & cooled the house down to 75F! Energy saving tip, courtesy of the Plant Life Giver Mama! You're welcome.

Since it was so warm today, I let Collin run around in just a diaper. He loved it....& I loved getting him up from his nap looking like this.

Banging Bangs

I've been lusting over bangs for awhile now. I've always admired how hip & cute Rebecca Woolfe & Kelle Hampton look rocking their bangs, but never thought I could pull them off. I mean, those gals do it so effortlessly & I'm sure they have money to pay a professional to trim their bangs into perfection. I do not, but that didn't stop me from wishing...& trying bangs on in my Hair Makeover app.

After months of debating, I decided to go balls to the wall & just do it....not only do it, but do it myself. Its hair. It grows back. Worse comes to worse, I'll pin them back.

I started with Google. I needed to visualize the bangs I wanted to rock on my own forehead. I knew I loved Emma Stone's hair, so I Googled her....& in nearly every photo her bangs were side swept. Not what I'm looking for, thanks.

Next stop, YouTube. I found hundreds of videos of preteens giving tutorials on how to get emo bangs. Just as I was beginning to feel defeated, I found the video. I can't even tell you how easy this video made cutting bangs look & it WAS!!! I only did two things differently. First, when you're gathering your hair, he instructs you to do so forming a triangle on the top of your crown. I just created an even line all the way across. Let me tell you, you DO want to go farther back on your head than you think your comfortable with!!! I cannot stress this part enough. I went nearly halfway. This was perfect. Also, after he cuts the bangs, he smooths them out & leaves them. I think this makes them look entirely too blunt & fake. So I went back over my bangs vertically with my scissors to give it more texture & to make it look more natural.

So. Easy. I was in sheer disbelief after I cut my bangs. I was even more shocked after my shower when I blow dried my new bangs & actually liked them! Naturally, this called for gratuitous self-portraits with my iPhone & a massive FB post asking for opinions. Thus far, the verdict has been good.

My next step? Gratuitous self-portrait posting on my blog! You have been warned.

{  BTW, did I mention I did this all with my crafting scissors?!?!  }

Now that I have bangs, I see all the benefits I previously neglected to notice. For instance, insanely large, third eye, forehead pimple?! Not a problem! Bangs cover it all up! Bad tweeze job? (I am it's most recent victim.) Again, no longer an issue now that I have bangs!

Now, everyone run out & cut your own bangs!
