I have a best friend. You read correctly. I am a twenty five year old woman & I have a best friend. I have grown up with this friend. We have seen each other through terrible boyfriend choices...& outfit choices. Through puberty & first periods. Through massive boob growth on her part & non existent boob growth on mine. She was there for me through Liam's death. She was one of the few friends who wasn't afraid to be around me. She never judges when I let a tear slip down my cheek after I accidentally lose myself in a moment remembering him. We can not talk for a week, but as Mamas, we understand that children occupy much of each others' time & when we finally do make the time to call each other the following week, we pick up exactly where we left off. From seventh grade crushes to having our babies within days of each other, we have seen next to each other through it all. The good, the bad...& now, the amazing.
In fifteen hours, I will be helping my best friend with last minute dress fluffing & makeup checking along with her other three bridesmaids.
Tomorrow, as she walks down the aisle of the church on the arm of her father towards Gabriel, a man I whole heartedly believe will fulfill everything Maria deserves in a husband & partner, I will not be trying to hide my happy tears. I will proudly bear the tears that represent our friendship. All the bad & the good we have shared in the fourteen years we have known each other.
I am so proud to call Maria my friend & honored that she chose me to bear witness to the newest chapter in her life with Gabriel.
