Hercules

This weekend, we had to say goodbye to one of our three family dogs, Hercules. (Yes, I have three. Because I'm crazy.) I adopted Hercules two years ago while Greg grumpily protested an additional dog to our family. I needed something to take care of. Something to rescue. I had lost Liam & our puppy, Grissom, within a few months of each other. Emotionally, I needed to be rescued, too. Hercules was my project...or so I thought. This graying, 9 year old, overweight dachsund ended up becoming Greg's little partner. He wanted nothing to do with me. Every evening, Herky would whine his tiny, pathetic, woe is me cry until Greg gave in & let him cuddle in his lap. It didn't take long for Herky to help Greg take down his wall & love him right up.

Sadly, Herky's age finally caught up with him. We knew when we adopted him that he would only be with us a few short years, but that didn't make it any easier to say goodbye. He was a part of our little family before we had Collin & he watched as it grew with Collin's arrival last Fall.

I hope he was happy with the last few years we gave him. I know he made our lives a little brighter for the short time we had him.

  4. so sorry to hear this!

You gave him a good home. I think it is wonderful you two do this for dogs. Last years are just as meaningful as first years.
