Lovely Little Lemon Tree

I have always wanted to grow my own food. And one day, when we have a house (& Collin & I aren't squeezed inside this little one bedroom apartment) I'll have a yard & I'll grow everything I can. I think there is something to be said for growing & harvesting your own food.

It's planting season & my local hardware store is full of gorgeous little plants. We literally have no life form in our apartment (aside from Collin & I) of any kind, so I popped in to look for a small houseplant. Instead, I was pulled in by the sweet smell of citrus & quickly decided we needed a tree instead. Besides, this can be my sort of test drive. A way I can see if I even can grown my own food. The trees were perfectly sized for my porch & I had the choice of lemon, orange & lime. I was so tempted by the lime tree (Coronas, anyone?), but I ended up getting this sweet little lemon one instead. She looked like the smallest & healthiest one there. And I knew that once her lemons were ready to be picked, that I could make some rocking lemonade....& cue visions of me on a warm, sunny day picking the full, ripe lemons off of my sweet smelling tree, bringing them inside & making a large pitcher of ice cold lemonade, setting some aside for lemon custard. Collin cheering me on as the best mother...ever. Basically? Lemon tree won.

Yes, that is a big satellite dish next to my lemon tree. I have issues, ya'll.

Of course, no potted plant is complete with out some Target Dollar Spot flair, so I picked up the little bird house.

Collin really loves his tree. We call it his tree because he waters her everyday & checks on her leaves/blooms. We have one little lemon growing (there were others, but they didn't make it through the transfer to the pot). Don't even get me started on the smell that this tiny little girl puts off. I am obsessed with the sweet, soft, flowery smell that comes from her &when the breeze catches it just right...it's Heaven for the nostrils, folks.

Naturally, Collin & I both want more trees, but I'm going to give this little lady three months. If we can keep her alive & thriving for at least three months, we will add another.

I am super excited about this food growing journey. This lovely little lemon tree is just the beginning!!!

    1. I used to be the same way & kill anything that came in my eyesight. Not on purpose...it just happened. I'm getting way better at it now. :)

    1. Ooooh!!! Onions would be soooooo good to plant. I cook with them alllllll the time. With all the crap they spray/put into our food, I feel like more & more people are growing their own.
